Event
terms.

These terms apply when you register for an Anvil event through this website. The Anvil is an independent, student-led organization at Purdue University. We are not operated by Purdue University, and registering for our events creates no relationship with the university.

Separately, our privacy policy covers what we do with the information you give us. These terms cover the event itself.

Our events are free. Registering reserves a spot but is not a ticket: where an event has a capacity we fill it in the order people register, and where it does not, registration mainly tells us how much pizza to order.

Your spot is yours. Please do not pass it to someone else without telling us, because the list at the door is how we know who is in the room.

If you cannot make it, let us know. For a capped event that frees the spot for someone else, which is the entire reason we ask.

We may move, reschedule, or cancel an event. We are students and so are our speakers, so this happens: exams, illness, a room falling through. If it does we will email everyone who registered at the address they gave us.

We may also close registration early, including before an event is full.

Be decent to each other. Our events bring together people at very different stages, from someone with a funded company to someone who has never said their idea out loud, and the second person is the one worth protecting.

We will ask anyone to leave who harasses, threatens, or demeans another attendee, and we may decline future registrations. This is not a process with appeals attached; it is a small team making a judgment call so that the room stays worth being in.

Our events are not a place to sell things or recruit for unrelated ventures unless we have invited you to.

We usually photograph our events and sometimes record them, and we use those photos on this website, in our newsletter, and on social media.

If you would rather not appear, tell any Anvil team member at the event and we will keep you out of shots. If you later find a photo of yourself you would rather we did not use, email us and we will remove it. We will not ask you to justify the request.

Anything you say about what you are building stays yours. We claim no ownership of, or rights to, your idea, your company, or your work by virtue of you attending an event or telling us about it.

We also cannot promise confidentiality. Our events are rooms full of people we do not control, so treat what you say at one as said in public. If something genuinely cannot be shared, do not share it at a community event.

Anything you tell us is not investment, legal, or tax advice, and nothing said by our team, mentors, or speakers should be treated as such.

We run these events carefully but we are a student organization, not a venue operator or an insurer. You attend at your own risk, and we are not responsible for loss, injury, or damage to your belongings, except where the law does not allow us to say that.

Advice you get at an Anvil event comes from other students, mentors, and speakers giving their honest opinion. Decisions you make off the back of it are yours.

We may update these terms. The version and date at the top of this page tell you which set is current. Changes apply to registrations made after they are published, not retroactively to events you already signed up for.
